Summer Reading Challenge

Hello DMS Families!

Please click HERE to view the DMS Summer Reading Challenge

Reading is the foundation for academic success in all subject areas. In order to maintain the skills and strategies mastered in reading and writing, we are inviting students to participate in a summer reading project. This project will provide students the opportunity to explore books they love, stretch their creativity, and review concepts learned this past school year.

Students are strongly encouraged to read a book that sparks their interest. Students have access to the sora platform for easy access to thousands of free ebooks found in our Dover middle/high school library, as well as any books from the mid-hudson library system. The sora platform is located on the DMS Library webpage or on any electronic device in the waffle under students’ gmail account. Students may borrow books from the Dover Plains library, and all summer reading title suggestions can be accessed in Ebook format on the sora platform.

In an effort to meaningfully engage with reading, you will find a list of possible book projects that students may choose one to complete. These projects will allow students to demonstrate their appreciation and understanding of what they read. we encourage students to follow the guidelines provided, but ultimately want them to have fun and make the project their own. A key is provided to indicate which choices lend themselves to informational text, literature, or creating a digital version of the project.

In September, students who have completed Book Projects will have the opportunity to display and celebrate their work. Please note that projects can only be brought to the dms main office between September 9th-13th. please do not hesitate to contact the main office with any questions about access to books or project clarification.

Thank you for your support! We hope you have a wonderful summer!

Happy reading!
